Jerek Mathews and Ruben Iglesias battle to a no contest

  • They shake hands at the start!
  • Mathews hits a tornado snap suplex. Interesting.
  • Iglesias rallies and Jason Watts comes in and greets him with a big boot.
  • Watts gives Mathews a huge Crucifix Bomb.

Jason Watts in-ring interview

  • He calls out Joey Ryan.

They start the show off with a Buggy interview!

  • My prayers (complaints and whining) have been answered. Dave Marquez must really read my bullsh*t!
  • Mikey O’shea’s bro interrupts the interview on his sister’s behalf.
  • So Cal Crazy intervenes and calls him out.

–WTF? Buggy didn’t even get a word in. Way to make your women wrestlers look strong, NWA Hollywood. Weak segment.

Famous B. pins Tommy Wilson

  • Wilson tries to cut a promo and the crowd goes all PWG on him and starts a “You Shut Up” chant. He calls Famous B a wannabe. Harsh.
  • FB gets on a sleeper but is rammed into the turnbuckle.
  • Wilson counters another sleeper with a belly to back suplex.
  • Nice sequence where Wilson counters a sleeper with a potential sidewalk slam, but then FB counters with a headscissors. Very cool.
  • FB rolls over a powerbomb, rolls Wilson up for three and gets the ‘upset.’

Wilson attacks FB afterwards and Cedric the Hitman joins in the beatdown.

Andrew Hellman makes the save with a chair.

— Good short match. However, I refuse to call Wilson ‘Mr. Megastar’. It’s beyond corny. But perhaps that might be what NWA Hollywood is going for. C’mon NWA.

I wasn’t feeling the multiple sleeper hold attempts by FB. I don’t recall him using a sleeper on previous episodes so the attempts seemed to come out of nowhere. The match certainly picked up steam when FB used his speed and agility to avoid Wilson’s power moves.

Ugh. Not really digging the overuse of singles doing tag team matches to consolidate the feuds. I guess we’ll be seeing Wilson and Cedric vs. Hellman and B in the near future.

They show a collection of promos of most of the participants in the main event battle royal.

–This was excellent. It gets you psyched for the match and adds tons of meaning.

Todd Chandler & Bandon Parker defeat Lucha Machine & Ray Rosas

  • Chandler and Parker dominate early with three double team moves in a row. This almost seems like a tornado tag match. C’mon ref!
  • Lucha and Ray go heel to gain momentum.
  • Rosas gets stuck between Chandler and Parker and is destroyed by a chop fest. Wooo!
  • Chandler sets Lucha up in a tree of woe, Parker with a Super Ghetto Stomp from the top for the win.

–Good opener. What I liked most about this match was that it was kept short. All four men can certainly go but the double teams seemed a bit forced. Sometimes less is more. But I’ll be honest, I’m a huge Low Ki vs. KENTA fan and the Super Ghetto Stomp finish just made me want to see that classic ROH match again.

Nothing like reading a review of a show that aired two weeks ago. U can see the whole episode on the NWA Hollywood website. Okay. I also want to say that when I recap matches I just aim to mention a few highlights and try not to recap a match move for move. Anyways, here goes…

Famous B defeats Cedric The Hitman via DQ

  • Cedric carries a briefcase to the ring. Did he win that or did he just buy and make it part of his gimmick?
  • Crowd chants “Famous B”.
  • Cedric hits a sick neckbreaker across his knee from the Death Valley Driver position.
  • Famous B with a nice backslide and a few other pin combos for two close counts.
  • Cedric with a nice guillotine legdrop from the top.
  • Famous B hits his Flashing Lights superkick for a two count.
  • Cedric goes for his briefcase, gets caught red-handed and hits Famous B anyways for the DQ. He goes on to attack Famous but Andrew Hellman runs in for the save. LOTS of reverb throughout the theater.

–I think this was 3 minutes too long. I’ve seen Famous B really click with people but this was not the case. Decent match I suppose.

Joey Ryan and Willie Mack promo

  • Ryan says he’s done nothing but trained to beat Avalon and KAOS.
  • Mack says KAOS is a phony.
  • He says he’ll crush them with a Chocolate Thunderbomb.

–Decent promo to get you hyped up for their Tornado Match against KAOS and Avalon. Was this filmed in VHS? I’m trying to figure out why NWA Hollywood’s look seems so analog.

This prompt review is for the NWA Hollywood episode that originally aired last Friday on January 7! You can see the whole episode over at

Adam Pearce comes out and, like a classic heel, he demands the interviewer to hold the ropes open for him. Pearce speaks:

  • He talks about how he’s still the Champion of the World and that Colt Cabana needs to come out and finish their match right now.

The announcers play up the notion that Cabana may have a fractured neck.

Cabana’s music plays but he doesn’t come out. The ref counts to ten and raises Pearce’s hand in ‘victory’.

First off Happy New Year from Fighter Hayabusa!

This show was broadcast last Friday, December 31. I apologize for the lack of a Smackdown review. That should be coming soon if time permits. On with the show. Also, there are no fancy gifs this week since the fine folks at NWA Hollywood haven’t uploaded this particular episode.

This episode is old in ‘internet time’ but a review had to be done regardless. You can see the episode in its entirety

Show starts off with Adam Pierce cutting a promo.

  • He talks about himself and the Standard, his new posse (Austin Aries, Peter Avalon and KAOS).
  • Pierce says that they’re going to beat Team Cabana (Colt, Joey Ryan, Scorpio Sky and Willie Mack) in the main event.
