Post-UFC 119 Thoughts with The Rock

September 26, 2010

Greatness is captured here when mmafighting.com’s Ariel Helwani interviews Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson after UFC 119 in Indianapolis. The Rock was there as a fan and to promote his upcoming movie FASTER, with a cast that includes Billy Bob Thornton. Not sure why you just wouldn’t watch the video yourself but I typed out a transcript of most of the interview. By the way, there may or may not be a People’s Eyebrow at the end of the clip. Enjoy.

Are you a Kanenite?

September 12, 2010

Sometimes when you’re putzing around the internetz you come across some forgotten jewels like this video. Kane becomes the love-child of The Rock and Hulk Hogan in this amazing and forgotten locker room segment.  I just wish they allowed Kane to go with this side of his character even further.

Jim Ross hypes up tonight’s 900th episode of RAW and more

August 30, 2010

As usual Jim Ross drops another gem in his latest blog post. He discusses his excitement for tonight’s 900th episode of RAW. Here are just a few highlights of many:

The Best Feud

“The guttural, intense heat generated with the Austin-McMahon rivalry. It made stars of both Stone Cold, the anti hero, Mr. McMahon, the antagonist, and helped make RAW the Monday night TV destination for millions. For my money, RAW never had a better rivalry than Austin-McMahon.”

The Greatest Stable

“DX…which helped launch HHH, re-invent HBK and made stars of Billy Gunn, Road Dog, and Chyna. Every one came along at the right place at the right time with the right presentation for their persona’s in a male friendly 18-34 demo. To me, this faction was as good as it gets and ranks in the same breath with the Horsemen.”

The Rock

“The explosion of The Rock who Hollywood discovered and away the Great One went to become a major player on the silver screen. Rock’s verbal skills and ‘look’ set him a part and captivated the imagination of film makers and fans the world over. The Rock was a once in a life time athlete/personality in the mat game….a natural entertainer.”

He also gives a nice tribute to just how great the Undertaker is.   Head on over to JR’s blog to read that nugget of praise and respect and more.

UFC 116 Reflections, The Rock, Jim Ross and a Double Crab Claw Punch

July 4, 2010

*Update:  Due to Zuffa taking down the youtube video and wordpress not being able to embed videos from foxsports, I’m just going to have to leave you with a link.  Sorry, folks!

I stayed up late last night posting more than I should have about the great event that was UFC 116.  Marvel at the barrage that Brock Lesnar took below.  It’s a shame they didn’t include the finishes because Brock’s arm-triangle choke submission has to be seen to be believed.

Here are some of my favorite points:

@ 0:10  Brock’s first take down attempt that was countered by very alert and ready Shane Carwin.  This was like watching two giant mastodons or prehistoric frackin’ bulls run at each other head on.  It was pretty amazing to see, if not scary.

@ 1:10  Shane Carwin’s wink and a  smile before he and Brock tapped gloves at the start of round 2.

@ 1:25  Brock’s takedown of a very gassed Shane Carwin

@ 2:15 The uncanny double crab claw punch by Leben.  I believe Rogan said something like, “Is this a movie?”

@ 2:35 Sexyama and Chris Leben show the world what “toe to toe” and ‘stand and bang’ really means.  Awesome moment that tore the house down.
