CM Punk to walk out with Chael Sonnen on UFC on FOX 2?

January 4, 2012

From MMA Fighting

WWE Champion CM Punk will walk out with Chael Sonnen for his match againstĀ  the “Filipino Wrecking Machine” Mark Munoz on the UFC on Fox 2 card. This superstar team up seems fitting since both men are considered to be best promo men in their respective companies. We all know CM Punk for his great mic work in the WWE. UFC president, Dana White, has compared Chael Sonnen to Muhammad Ali.

There are reports that the WWE has allowed CM Punk to stay in Chicago while the rest of the RAW roster is doing houseshows. This seems sketchy since CM Punk is scheduled to be at the Royal Rumble in St. Louis the following Sunday. Would the WWE allow one of its top superstars to appear on a major event from it’s main competitor for PPV business? However seeing CM Punk on a major UFC card on Fox could only be good. CM Punk’s appearance would only be a positive for the UFC since the Punk fans that don’t watch MMA are likely to tune in to see him.

After jump you can see Chael Sonnen doing what he does best from his segment, Chael’s Corner, on the new UFC Tonight show on the Fuel Channel.

Kevin Durant, meet Evil Jim Ross. Jim Ross, this is Kevin Durant

January 4, 2012

Jim Ross, sporting an incredibly dope, Bond villain goatee, spent some time in the announcers’ table at the TrailBlazers-Thunder game Tuesday night. He was there to promote a February RAW event at Oklahoma City’s Chesapeake Energy Arena. He discussed Shaquille O’neal’s possible involvement in Wrestlemania, Kevin Durant being a wrestling head, and he compared NBA refs to ‘blind’ pro wrestling referees (so true, JR, so true). Just watching this further confirms the notion that Jim Ross improves ANY sports broadcast.

My favorite moment was when he used his own Jim Ross-ism and described Thunder power forward, Nick Collison, as a ‘government mule.’ How awesome is that? There was even a Spanish Broadcasting table joke. Here’s Good Ol’ Jim Ross’ response when the announcer asked him about his thoughts of when the Thunder came to his hometown.

It’s been amazing. I’ve worked for Ted Turner in Atlanta. Part of my contract was that I got front fow seats for the Hawks in the era of Dominique, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird,…you know, Magic. I’m a big basketball fan.

Gabe Sapolski on CM Punk & Daniel Bryan

December 21, 2011

Gabe Sapolski shares some interesting anecdotes about CM Punk and Daniel Bryan’s ROH tenures over at Heyman Hustle. It’s a brief but excellent read. Here’s an excerpt:

On CM Punk

It had been planned since 2004 for CM Punk to become ROH World Champion in the summer of 2005. Then one spring day Punk walked into my office in Bristol, PA and said that WWE offered him a developmental deal and he was going to take it. I tried to play it cool, and I knew Punk would end up in WWE one day, but this floored me and caught me totally unexpected. Punk was by far our biggest merchandise seller, he was a main eventer and all plans were set on him to carry the company.

On Daniel Bryan

Bryan was a talent I depended on from the very first ROH show to my exit from the company in October, 2008. In fact, he main evented that first ROH show, which also happened to be the first show I ever booked. Bryan matured and grew with the company, constantly being an “ace” and backbone of the promotion. No one was more respected by his peers. I call him the number one guy in ROH history. When the “tie” incident took place and Bryan departed WWE in 2010, I was fast to hire Bryan in the new promotions I was booking- EVOLVE and Dragon Gate USA.
