Kofi and Wade put forth a hard hitting battle and Team Irish Viper beat Team Swiss Show

Quick Results

  • Randy Orton comes down to a nice pop. He says his New Years Resolution is to be Heavyweight Champion. Orton also announces his entry into the 2013 Royal Rumble.

  • Sheamus comes out and declares that he’s in the 2013 Royal Rumble match as well. Sheamus thanks Orton for helping him with the Shield. Orton retorts that he did it for himself, not Sheamus. Sheamus talks a little shit about kicking Orton’s head out of the ring but Big Show’s music hits.

  • Big Show says that he’s bad ass and that he’s knocking everyone out, and stomping on Randy Orton. Antonio Cesaro joins them and insults the crowd, Ireland, and Randy Orton.

  • Booker T walks out and makes a tag team main event pitting Big Show and Cesaro against Shemaus and Orton.

  • The Miz pins Heath Slater (w/ Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal) via Skull Crushing Finale

  • Matt Striker interviews Wade Barrett. Barrett says he’s going to beat Kofi and retain his title.

  • The Great Khali w/ Natalya and Hornswoggle pin Primo, Epico, and Rosa Mendes

  • Kofi speaks with Matt Striker and talks about being a fighter and having his back against the wall.

  • Wade Barrett pins Kofi Kingston with a Bull Hammer while Kofi was in mid-air

  • Tamina Snuka pins Layla via Superfly Splash

  • Sheamus & Randy Orton defeat The Big Show & Antonio Cesaro when Sheamus pins Cesaro after being RKO’d by Orton

  • Orton and Sheamus have a stare down to end the show.

Highlights

The opening segment set the tone of the show. I like that Sheamus and Randy Orton only had a brief encounter before Big Show butted his way into the conversation. Seeing Antonio Cesaro interact with three main eventers was very nice to see!

The Miz-Slater match was okay. I’m just glad it was Heath wrestling instead of Jinder or Drew. Heath is still a little green but I find him more entertaining than his ‘band’ mates.

If you’ve seen a Wade Barrett promo, you already get the gist.

The Great Khali Six Man Tag match was mildly entertaining. I’m glad that Khali still gets a good pop whenever he gets tagged in. I could do without Hornswoggle wrestling but I guess he’s necessary to have around to entertain WWE’s under-9 years old demographic.

Kofi’s promo was solid but I still don’t think he’s connecting all the way with the fans. I think he needs to come harder and a bit more confident. A little cockiness would also help him.

I love roll-up pinfall attempts in any variation. Kofi pulled out a few lovely roll-ups in the middle of the match. I absolutely dig Barrett’s boot through the ropes. The move is sick and I hope he makes that his signature move like Orton’s 2nd Rope DDT. After the match you can see Kofi selling being groggy as hell. Overall, the match itself was good and Kofi still looked strong despite the loss. Watch this match first if you DVR’d the episode.

It was really good to see Layla tonight. Her metallic Buzz Lightyear tights were a little distracting but her fine self pulled it off. The match itself was alright, with Layla getting some offense in before Tamina hit a brutal Samoan Drop. Tamina’s Superfly Splash looked a little more on the Eddie Guerrero Frog Splash side, which is a good thing if she keeps doing it like that.

The main event was good but I still think Kofi-Wade was the match if the night. I am so tired of seeing Sheamus always getting his offense in and dominating in almost ever match. Big Show and Antonio Cesaro looked very good whenever they got some of their offense in. Orton and Cesaro had a lot of chemistry, while Sheamus just did his unstoppable bulldozer routine as usual. I can’t say enough about Cesaro’s in-ring talent. Even his knee lifts look great. After viewing this, the main match that I wanted to see most was Randy Orton vs. Antonio Cesaro

This was a good show overall and the Kofi match and the main event make this episode worth watching.

Happy New Year!!!
