Smackdown Thoughts & Review [November 16, 2012]

Team Ziggler and Team Foley have the eye of the tiger.

The Cleve –

Quick Results

  1. They open with a video package hyping the major feuds being showcased at Survivor Series.
  2. They show Sheamus pacing back and forth in the parking garage.
  3. Miz comes to the ring in a fly black suit. This is going to be catchphrase-mania. Mick Foley is his guest and Foley plugs his Christmas book and hypes up Survivor Series. Foley brings out his Survivor Series team out to have a ‘team meeting.’ They feign a falling out before Team Ziggler comes out.
  4. Ziggler hypes up his team and says that they’re more unified than ever. Alberto Del Rio starts talking shit to Ziggler and says that he’s not fit to be a leader. Ziggler and ADR start arguing and Mick Foley interrupts them. Foley says that Booker T gave him some power to make some matches tonight. Foley makes Miz and Randy Orton vs. Dolph Ziggler and Alberto Del Rio. Foley also books Wade Barrett to face Kane later on. Damien Sandow drops a turd on all the members of Team Foley. Mick also books Damien Sandow vs. Kofi Kingston right now.
  5. Damien Sandow pins Kofi Kingston via rollup with a handful of tights
  6. Kaitlyn, Layla, and Natalya defeat Eve, Aksana, and Alicia Fox via Kaitlyn’s reverse DDT on Alicia Fox
  7. Booker T runs into Sheamus backstage. Booker T tells Sheamus to stand down and not attack the Big Show.
  8. Randy Orton and The Miz defeat Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler via Miz cherry picking and giving ADR a Skull Crushing and Finale after Orton hit an RKO. Afterwards, Orton RKO’d Miz.
  9. Sheamus gets in the ring and cuts a promo on Big Show. He whines about Big Show being a bully and that he wants to fight Big Show now. Show comes out and tells Sheamus that he’s not scared of him. Sheamus gets all riled up and heads up the ramp. Booker T stops him and dismisses him from the arena.
  10. Big Show chums it up with Booker T backstage. Booker T tells Show that he’s facing someone ‘bigger than Show’ in the main event.
  11. Wade Barrett and Kane battled to a no-contest when their Survivor Series teammates interrupted the match and brawled in and around the ring. Orton ran down to the ring last and helped his team run Team Ziggler off with RKO’s. Afterwards Miz walks out to the top of the ramp and stares down his team.
  12. R-Truth is a guest announcer for Antonio Cesaro’s match.
  13. Antonio Cesaro pins Sin Cara via the Gotch Neutralizer
  14. Big Show pins The Great Khali via KO Punch after kicking out of Great Khali’s head chop. After the match, Sheamus attacks show in the arena’s parking garage.

I find the hype surrounding the traditional Smackdown elimination tag team match way more compelling than CM Punk’s feuds with Ryback and John Cena. The Miz turn and Mick Foley’s involvement have been very interesting to watch.

Kofi vs. Sandow was a good match to start the show. Kofi hit some seriously dope Tito Santana arm drags. It’s a shame the WWE books Kofi Kingston like he’s the lovechild of Koko B. Ware and Tito Santana, so much talent with very limited upward mobility. The WWE has always looked down upon talented ethnic wrestlers like Kofi, why would they change their mind now?

The Diva’s match was entertaining. The ladies did more double teams than the men’s tag team division did all last week. Also, it was cool to see Natalya go all ’94 cruiserweight when she flipped and kipped up out of a wrist hold. Super dope. Kaitlyn did very well and looked as crisp as she’s ever looked tonight. I hope she continues to wrestle at this level this Sunday.

The Miz-Orton tag match was the business. All four men worked very well together and this match got me very amped for their match this Sunday.

Antonio Cesaro made Sin Cara look like gold. Not everybody can sell Sin Cara’s offense and I think Cesaro sold Sin Cara’s bullshit extremely well. I also think his European uppercut is a move that I look forward to seeing every week.

Big Show’s match was The Great Khali was surprisingly solid. I like the idea that Big Show can come front behind and win a match with a huge shot to someone’s jaw. I hope Show’s title reign is a long one. I think Sheamus’s attack suggests a Big Show win on Sunday.

Overall this was a good go-home show to Sunday’s pay per view. All the matches were solid to very good and all the angles were highlighted accordingly.

I think the WWE’s roster is going to give a Survivor Series to remember this weekend.
