Super Smackdown Live Thoughts & Review [November 6, 2012]

by

Kofi and Miz deliver… again. Orton and Alberto Del Rio tear the house down, and Obama is my president again. YES! YES! YES!

Birmingham, England

Michael Coles introduces Sheamus to the ring. Cole says that Sheamus was involved in an incident last night in a Birmingham pub.

They show the ‘cell phone’ footage of Big Show attacking Sheamus. Lots of boos from the crowd. Sheamus paces around the ring like an angry tiger…a white, angry tiger. Sheamus tells Cole that it’s not safe to be in the ring with him at the moment. Cole leaves. Sheamus grabs the mic and says he’s going to kick Show’s ass.

Big Show appears on the Smackdown Tron and calls Sheamus an ‘ungrateful GINGER!’ LOL. I can’t believe he said that.

They argue about who’s scared, and then Sheamus tells Show to come down and take a beating.

Wade Barrett comes out instead. A decent BARRETT chant starts. Wade says some shit about beating Sheamus up with something from the Barrett Barrage. Sheamus suggests another matcho challenge and Wade just heads to the back.

~ Decent opening segment. Big Show is the only wrestler I’m interested in this three-way feud.

Backstage, Wade Barrett is approached by Booker T. Booker T sets up a tag match between William Regal and Sheamus vs. Wade and the Big Show. Thank you, WWE, for putting William Regal on my TV.

Intercontinental Championship Match

Kofi Kingston pins Miz via Flying Cross Body off the Top Rope

  • After the match, Miz offered his hand for a handshake but was greeted by a dropkick.

~ Good match, which what we all can expect from these two. I loved Kofi’s flying clothesline off the guardrail. Very dope. Miz brought it as usual, along with a few interesting moves to damage Kofi’s leg. Miz’s delivery on the single leg crab looked like a Half-Walls of Jericho, which is always a lovely thing. The best part about this match was seeing a finish was with a high flying move from the 70’s and 80’s. A friend and I were talking the other day about how so many dangerous moves from the 80’s are no longer dangerous in today’s wrestling.

Prime Time Players defeated Sin Mysterio (Rey Mysterio & Sin Cara) via O’Neil’s Sky High Powerbomb on Rey Rey

  • After the match, Matt Striker tried to interviewed PTP. Titus O’Neil interrupts with an annoying whistle and interviews Darren Young. They force Matt Striker to do the Millions of Dollars dance. They kick him out of the ring and do their tap dance.

~ Okay match, but I think it’s time for these teams to move on. Rey looked dope in his fire red colorway with gold trim.

Booker T and Teddy Long have a random exchange backstage.

Wade Barrett & The Big Show defeated William Regal & Sheamus when Big Show KO’d Regal

~ I’m a little disappointed that Regal was mostly a punching bag here. Since wrestling’s a work, I expect legends to be able to showcase their talents a little. Glad that Big Show looked dominant, as he should.

Matt Striker interviews Alberto Del Rio about Orton getting the best of him in the past few weeks. ADR says he’s going to show the world that Orton is just a crying little girl. Rosa Mendes stops by and wishes ADR luck.

Striker interviews Randy Orton. Orton says he’s going to get sick and twisted, and cross that line that most people can’t.

Falls Count Anywhere Match

Randy Orton pins Alberto Del Rio via RKO on some steel steps in the ring

~ Great match. Both men brought their A-game, and props to Orton for taking a bump through a table. I’m not sure how believable ADR is as a main event player anymore. ADR has lost most of his recent feuds and it’s hard to believe that the WWE is going to ADR over any high profile faces. The finish was good but I wish they would incorporate ladders in falls count anywhere matches. If chairs and tables are legal, why not?

Overall, this was a good episode of Smackdown. Kofi, Miz, Orton and Del Rio worked very hard to deliver some solid matches tonight. In addition to that, it was nice to see Lord William Regal in the ring again.

I think I know why Vicki hates A J. She thinks A J is getting what she can’t have.
