WWE Summerslam 2011 Predictions

by

Event: WWE  SummerSlam

Time: Sunday, August 14th 8pm EDT

Place: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA

Daniel Bryan vs. Wade Barrett

Great Puma: Daniel Bryan must go over here. I imagine the WWE wanting to build Daniel Bryan up as a credible future World Heavyweight Champion. Losing to Wade Barrett, who is already over as a heel, would be a waste of Bryan’s great Money in the Bank win.

If I were the people in charge, I’d have Bryan win every match he has until his title match at Wrestlemania. I still don’t think about half of the WWE audience believes that Bryan is a major player to the titles. Build up his character as a technical master in the mold of Chris Benoit or Kurt Angle and the crowd will eat him up. Crap, I said the “B” word!

Mascara de Fuego: Daniel Bryan. They need to truly push this guy and build him to be a credible threat to the World Title. Having the briefcase is part of the equation but if they don’t invest some serious time into him he’s just going to be another Jack Swagger after winning the World Title. This has to be the starting point and I agree with Puma that maybe its time for an undefeated streak up to his WrestleMania match. You have the time, invest it wisely.

Sheamus vs. Mark Henry

Mascara de Fuego: Mark Henry. He’s the Smackdown monster now and although I think it was wise to go with Sheamus as a face, the person that will benefit this win the most will be Henry. Sheamus will recover and go on to feud with another heel to solidify his turn but it is Henry who should be slated for bigger things here.

Great Puma: Mark Henry all the way. You don’t build up a guy as an unstoppable monster just so Sheamus can have a face turn and tap dance on Conan O’Brian. Well do you? I hope this is just another stepping stone for Mark Henry on his way to bigger and better things, and hopefully major gold.

WWE Divas Title Match: Kelly Kelly © vs. Beth Phoenix

Great Puma: Beth Phoenix destroys Kelly Kelly in a squash. Beth has been on a roll and I look forward to Beth vs. Natalya in a future Divas Title match up. I’m not sure what the WWE is going to do with all the Barbie-like Divas but the quality of a Divas Title match sure is going to be a lot better.

Mascara de Fuego: Beth Phoenix. I’ve always been a fan of hers and hated her face turn, it just didn’t make sense. She is a better heel. I think they are going in the right direction here in making the diva’s credible if they do give her the title. Hopefully they will in fact build towards Natalya vs. Phoenix in the future and WrestleMania would be a good point for it. I think their long term booking with ‘Mania is smart so why not do it for every match on the card? Rock vs. Cena shouldn’t be the only “special” match on that card.

No Holds Barred World Title Match: Christian © vs. Randy Orton

Mascara de Fuego: Randy Orton. Although this feud has produced a lot of great matches I think it has run its course. Unfortunately that means the title goes back to Orton who will then feud with Henry. Maybe this means we’ll get Christian vs. Sheamus, I wouldn’t hate that. All I can say is that I am glad Christian got a decent run with the title to make up for his first title reign.

Great Puma: To take a page out of CM Punk’s Twitter book; My heart wants Christian but my brain picks Orton. Christian got the last laugh at the go home episode of Smackdown and that usually means his opponent is going to go over at the pay per view. That being said, if an Orton win leads to an eventual match with Mark Henry for the title, than I’m all for it.

For The Undisputed WWE Title: CM Punk © vs. John Cena © w/Triple H as Special Referee

Mascara de Fuego: CM Punk. If there was anything said this past Monday that holds true is that Punk NEEDS this win. There is a lot of wind behind Punk at the moment and to do anything but keep the title on him would be a step in the wrong direction. Cena will recover, he always does when he loses these big profile matches (ei. RVD & Punk). Cena does NOT need this win just like he didn’t need it in Chicago. Going with Cena just means they are going back to the same ol’ bullshit and my fear is that if that does happen Punk will end up in limbo again and it will have all been for nothing. He needs to come out of this match strong and the pay per view needs to end with him celebrating. Of course since I’m a cynic of this product (and rightfully so) I have a feeling Cena wins via Triple H screw job on Punk and Alberto Del Rio cashes in to win the WWE Title. This will then set up Punk vs. HHH at Survivor Series and Alberto Del Rio vs. John Cena for 5 pay per views straight.

Not as pumped for SummerSlam as I was last year with the impending return of Daniel Bryan to take on Nexus. It just feels like a one match show and unfortunately I don’t see the outcome of that match being very good…

Great Puma: CM Punk should and will be the Undisputed WWE Champion. There’s so much to consider here since we all know the Rock is going to be involved. A Cena win would take all the wind out of the sails of the Summer of Punk angle. Cena doesn’t need this win as much as pro wrestling itself does. A second Punk win adds that much more interest, which is what I would hope the WWE wants in the long run.

The best-case scenario would be that Punk wins clean and that the Rock gives John Cena another post match beat down. That being said, I could see the WWE having Rock screw John Cena once again for the title.

The only four wrestlers I want to see CM Punk wrestling at next year’s Wrestlemania are not named Triple H. I would love to see CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan, Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho, or Stone Cold Steve Austin. The idea that Punk vs. Triple H at Wrestlemania is just horrible.

The Undertaker rematch with Triple H still has a lot of legs and only compliments the possible triple main event of Rock vs. Cena, ‘Taker vs. Triple H, and CM Punk vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin. WWE, please make it happen!
