The Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla returns on DWTS (April 11, 2011)

by

It’s Classical Week! All the dancers will be dancing to classical pieces. A 46 member orchestra will provide the music.

The DWTS Dance Troop performed a Pasodoble clinic for the audience.

A brunette Chris Jericho, who looked like he borrowed CM Punk’s hairdo, performed eighth with his partner, Cheryl Burke. They performed the Pasodoble to In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg.

In the preceding video package, he says that he’s back as Chris Jericho. Cheryl says that they need his arrogant wrestling persona for the Pasodoble. They show WWE footage of him in the ring.

Jericho cuts a promo on the Pasodoble and manages to namedrop the Rock and Mr. Baby Gap.

This was a well-executed performance to my untrained eye and the crowd seemed to respond pretty well.

In the post-dance interview Chris Jericho dropped this cheesy gem:

“Cheryl helped me go from Charlie Brown to Charlie Sheen tonight.”

Dork. The judges were very kind in their critiques. They gave Team Chericho a score of 23. Here’s a brief summary of what they said.

Bruno 8 – He got the accent so well. EXCELLENT!

Carrie Ann 8 – He was so connected to the music.

Len 7 – The dance wasn’t bad. The music conquered him. (The crowd turned on Len at this moment)

My Take ~ Score: 8

I’m happy to say that Jericho did well tonight in my eyes as well as the judges. If he’s on the bottom again, you can blame the sports entertainment world that he came from. He’s not a movie star, nor a pop singer. He’s a celebrity in the art of pro wrestling. If he gets eliminated tomorrow, I just don’t think the mainstream audience was ready to embrace a pro wrestler not named Dwayne the Rock Johnson. I personally don’t think that Jericho will be eliminated tomorrow but you never really know which way the public is going to vote. I think Kendra is probably going to be eliminated tomorrow.

After the jump we’ll see how the rest of the cast did.

The judges’ cumulative score out of 30 and the gist of their comments are in bold.

My take and score follow in italics.

1. Romeo (Pasodoble): 23 – Needs finesse and technique. Focused and powerful. This Paso had swagger (uggh can we find a synonym for that?).

~ Score: 7 Romeo came off pretty intense. This dance suited his Mr. Hard Face attitude. I still think he’s counting more than just feeling the music. There was also the obligatory no-shirt moment.

2. Kendra Wilkinson (Viennese Waltz): 18 – She messed it up. She was trying really hard. It had good movement.

~ Score: 7 It’s hard to look bad with the gorgeous “Time to Say Goodbye” as your soundtrack. This was a fine performance. This is a perfect opportunity for Jericho to shine and last another week.

3. Sugar Ray Leonard (Viennese Waltz): 21- He has a sparkle and is entertaining. He turned into the Sugar plum Fairy. Wonderful cartoonish charm.

~ Score: 5 Charming but the brother is still stiff as the Tin Man with no oil. Sorry champ!

4. Petra Nemcova (Pasodoble): 23 – It needed more authority. That ending, oh my god. Strong lines.

~ Score: 8 Entertaining performance. It was nice to see her in darker make-up…hot. Very sexy ending where her skirt was taken off and showed off her amazing legs.

5. Ralph Macchio (Waltz): 25 – Romantic and totally heartfelt. He’s very honest. He’s back.

~ Score: 8 A little dramatic where it became borderline cheesy. Besides that it was pretty moving and entertaining.

6. Hines Ward (Pasodoble): 25 – He was in the zone. He’s the most determined out of all the celebrities. He has the killer instinct.

~ Score: 8 Action packed. What can I say? Hines is the guy to beat in this joint.

7. Chelsea Kane (Viennese Waltz): 26 – She is a fantastic dancer but there’s something I don’t like. It was magical fabulous. Great choreography.

~ Score: 8 Very whimsical. Fun performance.

8. Chris Jericho (Pasodoble): 23

9. Kirstie Alley (Waltz): 22 – She’s the queen of the unexpected mishap. This was kind of strange. Everything needs to improve. She did amazingly well.

~ Score: 7 Her shoe fell off. So glad they didn’t fall tonight. She complained of a hip injury during her training but she seemed to be on all four cylinders tonight. Very elegant.
