Vince McMahon came out and informed the crowd that Bret Hart will not be at the PPV tonight.  They showed footage of the NXT rookies’ abuse of Bret Hart.

Intercontinental Championship
Drew McIntyre vs. Kofi Kingston

  • Kofi saved this match.
  • Kofi hit a very fresh and unique float over DDT on Drew.
  • Kofi also hit a very dope Springboard Tornado DDT!
  • Ref gets knocked out.  Drew hits the Futureshock on Kofi.  He goes for the pin but the ref is knocked out.  Drew then gets Teddy in the ring and puts a ref’s jersey on him.  Teddy makes a two-count and stops himself.  Drew gets upset and then Matt Hardy comes in and hits the Twist of Fate on Drew.  Kofi awakens and hits his Trouble in Paradise kick for the pinfall.

WINNER: Kofi Kingston

Decent match with a messy finish.  Kofi saved this match from being craptacular.  It was like watching DX-era Shawn Michaels defend his WWE Championship against a very green Ken Shamrock.  The Kofi-Teddy-Drew feud will go on.

CUT TO THE BACK:  Hart Dynasty gets interviewed.

Fatal 4 Way for the Diva’s Championship
Eve vs. Gail Kim vs. Maryse vs. Alicia Fox

  • The heels and faces sort of team up with each other.
  • Nice dual submission from Eve (Camel Clutch) and Gail (Boston Crab) on Alicia Fox.
  • Maryse breaks it up and her and Alicia go at if for a minute.
  • Stryker gives a nice Jumping Bomb Angel Double Stomp missile dropkick reference!
  • Eve Torres does a textbook moonsault on Maryse.
  • Alicia quickly throws Eve out of the ring and goes for the pinfall.  One…two…three.

WINNER and NEW Divas Champion, Alicia Fox.

Decent match.  Eve Torres is getting better every time she wrestles.  The double submission was a nice spot in the match for sure.

CUT TO THE BACK:  Rey and Show have a confrontation.  Rey’s sporting his douche-bag Laker colorway.  Show calls Rey a man of faith and that some obstacles are just too big.  That got me thinking of LOST’s conflict of faith vs science and the Smoke Monster.  Show holds up his huge fist and Rey returns with a gem of a  quote:

As big as that fist is…my heart is bigger.

Chris Jericho walks to the ring.  He grabs a mic and addresses the crowd:

  • He’s the reason everybody tunes in to WWE.
  • He’s no longer a hot topic.
  • Wade Barrett is more of a hotter topic than he is right now.
  • He’s the most important performer on the roster.
  • He’s the greatest wrestler in his generation.
  • He’s at the top of the mountain and has a target on his back.
  • Evan Bourne is out to get him and that Evan’s shooting star press was uncalled for.
  • He wants a rematch with Evan Bourne tonight.
  • Evan Bourne is going to be snuffed out tonight.

Chris Jericho vs. Evan Bourne

  • Very entertaining match.
  • Huge “LET’S GO JERICHO” from the crowd.
  • Bourne hits a nice plancha from the top turnbuckle to the outside.
  • Nice dueling “Let’s go Jericho/Let’s go Evan” chants from the crowd.
  • Jericho hit a beautiful German Suplex pin for a two count.
  • Evan hit a very athletic hurricurrana on Jericho from the floor to the top turnbuckle.
  • Walls of Jericho was slapped on Bourne.  Bourne reached the ropes.
  • Very hot crowd was going apeshit the whole match.
  • Bourne got a few near pinfalls after hitting his highspots.
  • Jericho also hit a spinning back breaker circa early WWE/WCW Y2J-era.
  • Jericho hit a Code Breaker right after he dodged Evan’s shooting star press.
  • Bourne’s leg reached the bottom rope to break the pinfall.
  • Jericho goes for a superplex but Bourne knocks him off and hits the SSP.
  • One…two…three.

WINNER: Evan Bourne

The best match on the card so far.  Very entertaining and Evan Bourne will hopefully get a lot more opportunities from this point on.  Props to Jericho for going all out in that amazing upset victory.

KANE VIDEO PACKAGE:  Kane talks about getting revenge on the person responsible for Undertaker’s vegatative state.

Fatal 4 Way for the World Championship
Swagger vs. Mysterio vs. Punk vs. Big Show

  • Punk sports a new mask that has white trim in a very KISS-like design. FRESH!
  • Rey went for CM Punk’s mask early.
  • Rey took Punk out of the ring.
  • Show threw Swagger out.
  • Rey and Show have a staredown and went at it.
  • Rey Rey with a very dope powerslam counter DDT on Big Show.
  • Lots of close pinfall attempts and saves by all four wrestlers.
  • Rey and Punk actually worked together at one point and hit a nice stereo baseball slide on Big Show.
  • AWESOME double stacked German Suplex by Jack Swagger on Punk and Rey.
  • Show blocked a 619 that was going to hit Swagger and Punk.
  • Great sequence by Rey and Punk on Big Show.  Rey hit a 619 around the corner post and then Punk hit his springboard clothesline on Show from the ring to the outside.
  • Kane comes down with a casket and tries to chokeslam Punk into the casket.
  • Rey hits the 619 on Swagger and hits the West Coast Splash.  One two three.

WINNER: Rey Mysterio.

Great match and Rey gets a title in an awesome match.  The Kane interference didn’t hinder the quality of the match that much.  Great effort by all parties involved.  Punk and Rey should work together every Pay Per View.

Mission Impossible themed Money in the Bank commercial.

CUT TO THE BACK:  Josh Mathews interviews John Cena amidst a cacophony of jeers and boos.  Cena addresses the NXT controversy.

Miz comes out with his own “remix” to R-Truth’s “What’s Up?”.

United States Championship
Champion The Miz vs. R-Truth

  • R-Truth took control early, which led to a pinfall attempt.
  • Miz kicked out and then took control with a counter kick to the midsection.
  • Miz hit some nice running double knees on R-Truth in the corner.
  • R-Truth used his very dope suplex stunner on The Miz.
  • The Miz did a nice sitdown counter on a sunset flip attempt by R-Truth.

Decent match.  Not sure if they have great chemistry together.  Both wrestlers seemed gassed in the middle of the match.  I really think R-Truth should use the suplex stunner as his finisher.  I love it when matches end in this manner instead of the usual ‘set up and finisher’ pinfalls.

CUT TO THE BACK:  Edge cuts a promo on all 3 opponents.

Six Person Tag Match
Hart Dynasty vs The Uso Family

  • The ladies started the match off.  Natalya is a lot more polished between the two ladies.
  • Tyson Kidd lunges at Jimmy Uso from the ring apron.  Uso catches him and then hits an incredible Samoan Drop on Tyson Kidd to the barricade.
  • Natalya hit a nice Michinoku Driver on Tamina.  TAKA would be proud.
  • Tyson Kidd hit a nice springboard rolling plancha on the Usos to the outside.
  • Tamina misses a Superfly Spash attempt.
  • Natalia hits a roaring tornado clothesline on Tamina for a pinfall attempt.  One…two…three.

WINNERS: Hart Dynasty.

I can’t say enough about Tyson Kidd’s ring ability.  He totally made this match way more exciting than it was suppose to be.  His bump off the samoan drop was pretty brutal.  I think the Usos are a little green in my opinion.  Tamina is probably the most polished out of the trio.

Fatal 4 Way for the WWE Championship
John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. Sheamus vs. Edge

  • Cena started the match of with a Attittude Adjustment attempt on Orton.
  • Orton countered and went for an RKO
  • Crowd with a HUGE “Cena sucks” chant.  Gotta love New York crowds.
  • Orton hit a DOUBLE 2nd Rope DDT on Sheamus and Cena.  Crowd went bananas for that.
  • Edge capitalized on that missed a spear on Cena.
  • Cena goes through his moveset and is greeted by a boatload of boos from the crowd.
  • Every time Sheamus got some offense in, the arena goes silent.
  • Cena got Edge in an STF for a very long time.  Edge teased tapping out a few times and Cena actually released it and pulled Edge back to slap it on again.  Sheamus saved Edge and went for the cheap pinfall attempt on Edge for two counts.
  • Orton finally hit a an RKO on Cena to the crowd’s delight.  Sheamus broke the pinfall attempt.
  • Edge hit a spear on Orton.  Then Sheamus hit his kick on Edge.
  • Edge hit another spear on Orton against the barricade on the outside.

CUT TO THE BACK:  The NXT rookies attack wrestlers watching the match in the locker room.

  • The announcers left their posts and fleed the scene.
  • Michael Cole is no where to be found.
  • The NXT Rookies attack the wrestlers in the Main Event.
  • In all the madness, Sheamus, of all F*CKING people, pins Cena and wins the title.

The NXT Rookies continued their beatdown on Cena and then ran to the back.

The PPV closed with showing the other main eventers struggling to get up around the ring.  They show a close up of Cena dazed in the middle of the ring as the show ended.

The Rey Mysterio win was a nice ‘WTF?’ moment but it was probably the last result fans wanted to happen.  From the reaction from live crowd, you could tell that they either wanted Swagger to retain,  or have Punk or Show win the title.  However, this match displayed why I consider the Smackdown brand the premier brand of the WWE.  All four wrestlers busted their ass and there wasn’t a weak link in the match like in the RAW brand main event (Sheamus).

Alicia Fox winning the Divas title was also an odd result.  Eve Torres, Gail Kim and Mayrse did most of the work and kept the match interesting so it was interesting to see the least talented of the three divas get the duke.

Evan Bourne’s win over Jericho was probably match of the night.  It shows Jericho’s determination to help the WWE’s future stars.  The match was superb and worthy of being on a bigger Pay Per View like Summerslam or Royal Rumble.  I look forward to these two wrestlers working together again in the future.

Overall, the pay per view was okay.  Some of the booking was pleasantly surprising, but having Sheamus winning the WWE World leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.
